Greens Slit Drainage

CTO designs and installs laser guided sub surface slit drainage systems into existing greens using our proven 6 step process:

  1. After consulting with the Project Manager/Superintendent the design is strategically mapped out to provide optimal drainage and playing conditions.
  2. The sod is cut cleanly and placed aside in the order it was removed.
  3. The collectors and slits are trenched using precision grade lasers to ensure accuracy.
  4. Slits are installed at a minimum depth of 12" and Collectors at a minimum of 14" to permit deep tine aerification practices without interference.
  5. The trenches are backfilled with a 60-20-20 mix (or mix of choice) and tamped in many lifts to ensure no settling.
  6. The turf is carefully replaced to the exact location from which it was removed and play can immediately resume upon completion. (approx. 2 days for an average size green start to finish)

Benefits:

  • creates a lower water table which causes the roots of the turf to reach deeper for water, thus creating a stronger stand of turf
  • lowers the risk of disease especially in wet times for there is minimal risk of saturation
  • reduces the need of fungicide applications which is regarded highly by the Ministry of Environment.
  • allows for more consistent playing conditions
  • allows a course to open earlier and stay open later in the season.
